| Hi, there, it’s one week until Halloween, but we know you’re ready for more scares. From the premiere of Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities to more slow-burn creepy shows to enjoy, there’s plenty to send chills up your spine. But first, let’s discuss the reactions to those dragons on last night’s finale… | | In the Spotlight |
| | House of the Dragon | The Story We were promised Succession with dragons, and yes, we got it. Somehow we survived all the massive time jumps, brutally traumatic birthing scenes, incest, fetishes, and deaths to finally arrive at the end of Season 1 of House of the Dragon. In last night’s finale episode, titled “The Black Queen”, the action moved to Dragonstone and things continued to get tense. This wouldn’t be a Game of Thrones prequel without a tragic death—and fans reacted in shock and awe of that mid-air chomp. But what can we look forward to as we await the next season of the HBO Max hit?
What the world is saying Showrunner Ryan Condal promises more war (and humor) in Season 2: "We will get to the spectacle, but you have to understand these people’s complexities before they’re thrown into war…"
The dynamic between Prince Daemon (Matt Smith), who has become an unlikely “internet boyfriend,” and his wife Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) will be explored in detail.
Princess Rhaenys (Eve Best) and Corlys (aka the Sea Snake, played by Steve Toussaint), will return despite so many losses to their family. Additionally, other characters introduced in Season 1—Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno), the Arryk Cargyll twins (played by Luke and Elliott Tittensor), as well as Tyland and Jason Lannister (both played by Jefferson Hall)—are all expected to be back.
Writing of the new episodes has already started with production expected to begin in late 2022, with filming itself lasting until the summer of 2023. According to Winter Is Coming, the series is expected to return to Cáceres, Spain, where it has filmed many scenes set in King’s Landing. Season 2 isn't expected to return to HBO until 2024.
What to watch after the finale: | | | | The Witcher | Based on the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, monster hunter Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) must do everything to protect Princess Ciri of Cintra and the world from evil forces. | Add to watchlist |

| | “I need a creepy show like Hill House/Bly Manor please!! Less jumpscares, more slow burn creep factor. Any ideas?” -@aeriel_diettra
Mike Flanagan's anthology series The Haunting (including both Hill House and Bly Manor) is among Netflix's biggest horror TV shows because these terrifying stories feel so eerily realistic. The spooks come from the combination of real-life hardships like grief, heartache, and familial trauma, interwoven with paranormal elements. You're drawn in by becoming emotionally attached to the characters, only to then find out that not everything is quite what it seems.
The Criteria Creepy shows similar to The Haunting are less interested in gorey moments, instead focusing on spine-chilling narratives full of shocking twists. But just because there are less jump scares and murders doesn't mean you'll have an easy time falling asleep after watching these shows.
The Standouts Those looking for similar shows to Mike Flanagan's hit series will enjoy his other new Netflix show, The Midnight Club. The Outsider and Castle Rock are based on Stephen King novels, so you know what you're getting yourself into. | | The Midnight Club | Terminally ill teenagers form a close bond while residing in a spooky hospice and make a pact that whoever dies first has to send a message to the living friends from beyond the grave. | Add to watchlist |
